Holistic Aesthetics

The goal of aesthetic medicine and beauty treatments is to help you look your best, right? Want fuller lips? Get lip fillers. Want more youthful-looking skin? Neurotoxins can help you get there. Aesthetic treatments shouldn’t be handed out like candy on Halloween, though. Each patient of mine is unique, which makes each treatment journey look a bit different from the next.

That’s why it’s crucial for aesthetic treatment providers to take an internal health and holistic approach to their services. Not only do these approaches keep patients safe and healthy throughout their beauty journey, but they also make treatments more effective and longer-lasting. I have a Certification in Holistic Nutrition & Health Coaching (and currently enrolled in a Medicinal Plant Certification program) which is why I’m so dedicated to this approach. While I don’t do health coaching per se, I use the education/knowledge in my approach to aesthetic treatments so that my patients can feel confident in their decision to take my treatment recommendations, knowing that I have their overall health in mind. Read on to find out how holistic approaches benefit patients who receive aesthetic services.

Aesthetic providers with internal health & holistic approaches operate differently

The consultation with your treatment provider is a crucial point in your aesthetic journey. A provider that’s quick to agree to treatments without getting to know you should be a big red flag. Quick-draw treatments lead to poor aesthetic results at best, and health risks at worst. Your provider should not only be concerned about how services will impact your appearance, but also how your overall health will play a role in the success of your treatments.

It should come as no surprise that a great aesthetic treatment provider will start by building a relationship with you. They’ll want to know what your day-to-day life looks like, what your beauty goals are, what areas of your health you tend to struggle with, and even what your diet consists of.

Having an open and honest relationship with a provider that cares about both your internal health and your external appearance is vital. The reason is, your health and lifestyle will make or break the success of your aesthetic treatment services.

How your lifestyle impacts your aesthetic enhancement journey

There are some key areas in your life that could impact the overall success of your treatments, and if these areas are neglected, you won’t be as satisfied with your long-term treatment results.

It’s important for your provider to understand your health and lifestyle before any treatments are performed. This helps measure any risks that services may pose, and it enables your provider to map out your treatment journey all the way to success.

Sleeping habits

Sleep issues can certainly lead to dark under-eye circles and premature wrinkles. If you’re considering aesthetic treatments to correct these issues, it’s important to make sure these sleep issues are being addressed and improved so that treatments result in long-term success.

Certain sleeping habits can also impact your appearance. For example, sleeping on your stomach or on your side means your face is being pressed into the pillow. When this position is repeated every night, it can escalate the formation of wrinkles. Your provider may recommend some techniques for changing your sleep position to extend the life of your neurotoxin treatments.

Activity level

Your exercise routine has a big impact on your skin. Not only does excessive sweat cause clogged pores that lead to acne and scarring, but if you exercise outdoors, sun damage is also a concern.

Aside from your skin’s health, high levels of activity could lead to other issues and open up other avenues when it comes to aesthetic treatments. Sagging skin due to significant loss of facial fat can be corrected with dermal fillers. Platysma band formation can often be reversed with Botox injections.

Your aesthetic treatment provider will want to know how often you exercise, where you work out, and other aspects of your active lifestyle to determine how services will impact your appearance.

Nutrition and hydration

Poor nutrition and hydration not only impact skin health, leading to possible breakouts and acne scarring, but could also hinder the healing process after aesthetic treatments.

Sticking to a nutritious and healthy diet and drinking plenty of water improves cell renewal and collagen production, making skin appear tighter and more youthful. This is crucial when it comes to services like medical facials and microneedling, since your skin’s natural healing process is employed.

If your provider dives into questions about your diet and hydration practices, you know they’re taking a holistic, all-around-wellness approach to your treatments.

Alcohol consumption and smoking

Lifestyle elements like drinking and tobacco use often contribute to skin issues like under-eye bags, poor skin elasticity, and uneven skin tone. If you’re looking to get aesthetic skin treatments, like dermal fillers or microneedling, your provider will probably ask you about these lifestyle choices. Getting these habits under control will go a long way in preventing future skin damage and making treatments last longer.

Medical factors

There are some other factors in your personal health journey that can impact your aesthetic treatment plan. Certain medications, hormonal imbalances, or allergies can reduce the effectiveness of treatments or even pose health risks. Your provider will want to know all about your general health and the current treatments you’re undergoing for these issues.
