2022: The Year for Work-Life Balance

Like it was for many of you, last year was a tough one for me too. I experienced something for the first time: total burnout. In an attempt to build my business and improve myself, I ended up taking steps backward, and I know why. I lacked BALANCE.

This blog is for me to get personal with you. Hopefully, by opening up, you can learn from my mistakes and we can make 2022 OUR best year ever because we’ll engage in a true work-life balance.

How did I know I was getting burned out?

It started with my patients! After months of booking up my schedule from dawn to dusk, I started learning that many of my VIP patients couldn’t get in to see me. Now, don’t get me wrong. Being “too busy” is a great thing, but when I realized that it started pushing away people I cared about, it was a reality check.

My VIP patients are those that have been with me for years and we’ve transformed together. I enjoy seeing them tremendously. They’re more than patients, but friends to me. To learn that I couldn’t make time for them was an issue that needed to be addressed.

Once my eyes were opened, I realized other factors of burnout. My children weren’t able to always reach me. I couldn’t squeeze in time for a date or to meet up with friends. I pushed off exercise and healthy habits. Work took over my life.

Last year, I was continuously apologizing because I couldn’t be there for people I care about—including myself. As an empathetic person, I carried that guilt with me all year long. How can I be the great injector I strive to be without investing in ME? No one wants a burned-out injector, especially not me. So, it was time for a change.

My Plan to Implement a Work-Life Balance

I’m starting where I lost myself first. In 2022 in search of balance, I’m reaching out to my VIPs to keep them on schedule and prioritized within my practice. My goal is simple: to have things run more smoothly.

Next, I’m making my own life more beautiful. I’m investing in myself through hobbies and daily self-care. I plan to advance my education and continue familiarizing myself with the latest aesthetic procedures and sharpen my skill set. Aesthetics work can heal lives, I just need to ensure it’s not burning me out in the process!

My schedule should be equal parts work and things I enjoy. Finding that perfect balance will be hard, but a shift in mindset was all I needed. Some books helped me do that.

Don’t Be Afraid to Invest in Yourself

I’m blessed and happy with the progress I made last year. I built a beautiful life I’m proud of, but it was off-kilter. I prioritized the wrong things and wasn’t able to fully enjoy the fruits of my labor. Now, with a little work-life balance, I hope to find my perfect groove. Are you with me?

If I leave you with one thought, it’s: Don’t be afraid to invest in yourself. Whether it’s taking a workshop, scheduling a yoga class, booking a Botox appointment, or making plans to grab some vino with a girlfriend, DO IT. Together, let’s make 2022 our best year yet!

Attn: I have opened up space in my schedule for emergency appointments for touch-ups and high-priority treatments before and after regular business hours. 😃

xoxo, Jen
