Your Injectable Appointment Cheat Sheet
If you get multiple aesthetic treatments, you might be curious: how do I space out my appointments? Often, clients hope to get multiple treatments in one office visit and expect results overnight. I’m here to tell you that’s not the case.
Investing in your aesthetics needs to be viewed as a long game. So, I’m here to shed light on this concept and help you set realistic expectations for your injection goals. Behold, The Art of Injection’s Injectable Appointment Cheat Sheet!
How much time do you really need in between your appointments? It answers that.
How far out do I need to plan appointments for a big day? It shares that too.
The results of injectables, neurotoxins, fillers, and body sculpting are well worth it, but they take time. Read on to learn more about how to prepare your aesthetic strategy and the cheat sheet.
Why education is so important to aesthetics
A large portion of my days is spent educating my clients. I don’t expect anyone to be an expert on injectables or aesthetics - that’s my job. But, there is much more below the surface that clients don’t realize.
For example, many clients come in looking for work to be done before a big day. Whether it’s their wedding, a vacation, or a first date people want to look their best so they rush in to see me. The problem is:
The aesthetics process takes time.
No, I can’t inject you the week of your wedding! And yes, lip fillers before a date is a bad idea. If you’re looking to slim down before a vacation, body sculpting before your flight doesn’t change anything.
Injectables cause bruising, swelling, and time for your body to adjust. Other fillers take time to settle. Sculptra and QWO take weeks to see results.
What does this mean for you? Plan in advance. Understand how these injectables work so their optimal results kick in exactly when you want them to.
Your injectable appointment cheat sheet
Curious how long injectables take to kick in? Here’s a cheat sheet to keep you on track. You’ll see my top services with my recommended maintenance plan, plus other tips to extend your results.
Keep in mind, every patient is different since we all metabolize things at different speeds. Your results may last shorter (or longer!) than what I’ve listed here, but this maintenance plan works for most of my clients.
Note: Ice is your best friend after ANY injection appointment. Use it to ease any discomfort and take down the swelling.
Fillers
Initial Treatment: One injection appointment then you begin a maintenance plan, no downtime required but be prepared for bruising - some can last up to a week. With Radiesse, prepare for extreme swelling for 2 days.
How Long to See Results: Results can be instant, may take up to 4 weeks for filler to fully integrate with the body
Maintenance Plan: Touchups every 6-12 months
Tips to Extend Results: I suggest arnica cream and tablets, bromelain, or eat pineapple! 🍍 Only Tylenol for 2 days.
Botox
Initial Treatment: One injection appointment then you begin a maintenance plan, no downtime required
How Long to See Results: Results appear in 2-3 days, full results visible in 1-2 weeks
Maintenance Plan: Touchups every 3-4 months
Tips to Extend Results: Do not apply any pressure to the treated areas for 4 hours post-injection (ex. don’t lay on a pillow, no hats or headbands), no exercise for 24 hours, and no massages or facials for 48 hours
Kybella
Initial Treatment: One injection appointment, expect massive swelling for 2-3 days, moderate swelling for up to 2 weeks, bruising is also possible
How Long to See Results: Results appear in 6-8 weeks
Maintenance Plan: Lasts forever! Since Kybella dissolves fat cells, they do not return. However, 1-6 treatments may be necessary for desired results (usually 3-4)
Tips to Extend Results: Stay away from exercise for a few days. Avoid anti-inflammatory drugs if possible. It’s best to get Kybella in the fall or spring!
QWO
Initial Treatment: 3 treatments spaced 3 weeks apart, no downtime required, but expect bruising
How Long to See Results: Results in 10 weeks
Maintenance Plan: Lasts up to 3 years
Tips to Extend Results: Ice, ice baby to ease the immediate swelling.
PDO Threads
Initial Treatment: One injection appointment then you begin a maintenance plan, no downtime, bruising is possible but not typical
How Long to See Results: Tightening and lifting noticed quickly, 6 weeks until desired results
Maintenance Plan: Touchups every 6-8 months
Tips to Extend Results: Sleep elevated on two pillows face up and no intense exercise for 2 weeks
