Everything You Need to Know about Botox for Bunny Lines

Have you been thinking about treating your bunny lines? If so, you’ve come to the right place! Today, we’re going to cover everything you need to know about Botox injections, specifically how they can treat bunny lines on the face to give you a younger look while avoiding over-injected facial features that can look strange and unnatural. We’ll also take a look at the process, the right amount of botox to use, and more!

What Are Bunny Lines?

Bunny lines are wrinkles on either side of the nose that appear when you scrunch your nose or make exaggerated facial expressions. They’re not the same as marionette lines or nasolabial folds which are wrinkles you get from smiling and laughing a lot. If you have bunny lines, they come from squinting your eyes and scrunching your nose—like a bunny 🐰 would do if you were holding a carrot 🥕 in front of its face. The same expression happens when people try to mimic the way animals eat—usually because the food doesn't taste very good. What Causes Bunny Lines?: As we age, our skin loses elasticity and collagen production slows down. This means it becomes harder to keep our skin smooth and firm. In addition, repeated muscle movements can cause more pronounced lines to form around areas like your nose where you often hold tension.

How Can I Avoid Getting Bunny Lines?

If you want to avoid getting bunny lines, there are a few things you can do.

  1. Wear sunscreen: The sun will negatively affect skin laxity in every area of the face, including bunny lines.

  2. Don't pick at your face: If you have oversized pores on your nose, avoid the urge to pinch these pores in an effort to drain them. You'll likely pop tiny blood vessels and cause further damage to skin texture. Book a facial and leave this to the professional Aestheticians!

  3. Exfoliate regularly: Clearing the face of dead skin cells weekly will allow for new cells to surface and prevent tiny wrinkles from forming over time.

  4. Don't throw shade: You heard me! 😆 Scrunching your face and furrowing your brows to throw shade at people will cause wrinkles over time. Karma works in more ways than one!

What is Botox?

Neuromodulators, or muscle relaxants such as Botox®, Dysport® and Xeomin® are used strategically to relax certain muscles that convey a negative connotation and to ‘wake up’ other muscles that convey a positive expression.

Botox® Cosmetic is the number one aesthetic procedure in the world, for no other reason than it works! Patients decide to get a muscle relaxant such as Botox® or Dysport® for a number of reasons. When using these muscle relaxers, there is usually no downtime associated with them, which means that no one has to know unless you choose to tell them. The results appear gradually and disappear gradually, making the results subtle, yet dramatic.

Negative Side Effects of Too Much Botox in Bunny Lines

Receiving too much Botox in the bunny lines can cause a ripple effect of negative facial expressions that look unnatural, asymmetrical and downright unattractive. Unfortunately, Botox injections can't be reversed, so if you go to the wrong injector, you will be stuck with the negative side effects until the Botox has worn off after a few months. Some of the negative side effects of too much Botox in bunny lines that I have personally seen are:

  1. Can give the face a weird, unnatural, disproportionate shape,

  2. Downward facing nostrils

  3. Thumb-sized indents along the edge of the nose

  4. A wonky smile

When to Say "No" to Botox Injections in Bunny Lines

I don't recommend receiving Botox for bunny lines unless...

  1. You can visibly see bunny line wrinkles. Wait until you really NEED this treatment. Mild wrinkles might not be worth the investment

  2. A good peel, microneedling treatment, or laser can smooth the skin and correct the problem without the need for Botox injections

  3. Your previous Botox injections have completely worn off

  4. Under-eye/tear trough filler, botox between the brows, filler in marionette lines might just take care of those mild bunny lines at the same time
